Runway edit: Mod Parade

While flipping through May’s issue of Harper’s, filled with inspiration and envy; it spurred my consumer-friendly curated answer to some of our favourite SS15 trends courtesy of Mod Parade. Mod Parade is a god send for the modern minimalist with a budget, with fresh takes on trends each season.

The Kimono Trend:

chylome-2

This trend was seen on Celine, Gucci and Marni runways with a more literal interpretation of the Kimono. This little alternative takes the trends to our streets. Crisply white, it sets the kimono sleeves as the main attraction. Elegant, comfortable and versatile, definitely a summer must have that could transcend seasons.

Stripes:

Stripes took a bold turn this season (Balmain’s take on stripes was breathtaking). This striped piece features a versatile cropped cut and colour combination, take it from formal to casual – the styling options are in your hands.

Optical Effects:

imogene-white-1

Colour palettes were kept to a minimum – whites and blacks to achieve alluring optical effects. This grid design is the everyday answer to Balmain’s bolder gridded option. To inject more complexity to emulate a more straight off the runway look, play with textures: leather jackets , heels, or a choker.

Crochet

sloane-1

Crochet may seem like a tricky trend to navigate, but this summer essential proves that throwing caution to the wind can pay off. Romantic with a free-love hippie vibe, what’s not to love? This cut-in sleeveless crochet top features a scalloped hem with a high neck line and balances feminine delicacy with a modern silhouette. For an edgier laid back look, pair it with culottes.

Retails: SGD$ 29

My personal foray into this summer’s crochet trend was inspired by my trip to bali last month:

My personal styling choice was to allow the crochet to speak for itself, keep your other pieces simple, streamlined if you wish. I added a pop of colour and quirk with my Marc Jacobs dot perfume necklace.

What are some of your favourite interpretations of this season’s hot trends?
